End of Life Narratives Among New Americans

An expert panel of people of different cultures and religions will discuss their traditions and beliefs regarding health care and customs at end-of-life; and will address how they are, or are not, respected in health care settings such as hospitals, hospices, clinics and nursing homes, and at their homes by social workers, aides, chaplains, nurses, doctors and others who have contact with patients and their families.
Panelists:
· Muslim perspective–Mahjabeen Hassan, MD, plastic surgeon, Phelps Memorial Hospital Center, a founder of the American Muslim Women’s Association, Westchester
· Puerto Rican/Hispanic perspective–Lisette Francis, MSW, Social Worker at Bronx Lebanon Hospital with HIV patients and their families
· Haitian perspective–Manfred Jean Louis, Reverend, Haitian Yonkers Haitian Church of God
· Chinese/Asian perspective–Peter Wong, MPH, Administrator, Martin Luther King Jr. Community Health Center, Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center
